The Harry and Ruth Ruderman Award

Description    Winners    Back to Awards

The Harry and Ruth Ruderman Award is awarded at the ARML Annual Competition to the winning team of the Power Contest. Harry Ruderman was a treasured member of the mathematics community who influenced and inspired generations of students and teachers. He himself was a remarkable teacher who promoted quality and substance in mathematics education. His name was well known to readers of professional journals and members of our organization as a prolific writer, problemist, and lecturer. For over a decade, he served as a contributor and reviewer of ARML questions, and as a chief judge of the competitions, thereby helping ensure the quality and success of these events. Most of all, Harry loved working with young people. He deepened their appreciation, strengthened their confidence, and instilled in them a sense of wonder and delight in doing mathematics.
